Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to “fast” before a blood test?

Some blood tests are most accurate when you have not eaten or had anything to drink except water before your blood draw. Typically, this means avoiding food after your evening meal and scheduling your test early the next morning.

If you take medications that require food, do not skip a dose without consulting your physician.

I am having outpatient blood work done at Cimarron Memorial Hospital. Where do I go?

For planned outpatient blood work, begin by visiting Admissions to complete pre-admission. You will then receive an admission form and test orders and be directed to the Laboratory.

A phlebotomist will collect your blood sample and guide you to any additional testing areas if needed. Pre-procedure testing may include blood tests, urine tests, chest X-rays, or electrocardiograms (EKGs).

I had lab work done and want my results. Who should I contact?

You may speak with a Laboratory staff member at the time your blood is drawn or contact your physician directly. At your physician’s request, laboratory results can be faxed to your physician or specialist.
